How do you determine exposure?
You can use a separate hand-held meter or you can simply guess. With a meter you ensure optimum precision but if, on the other hand, you choose to guess the exposure, the quality on negative films may well astonish you. However, you need to err on the side of over-exposure: you will get extra shadow detail and increased latitude as opposed to under-exposure but this has to be balanced against the slight loss of sharpness and the increase in grain size.
On digital devices the integrated histogram replaces in many cases the light meter.
